PRADHAN, SHRI PABITRA MOHAN, B.A., (Hons.), Janata, (Orissa—Deogarh—1977): s. of Shri Chandra Pradhan; b. at Poipal Village, Dhenkanal District, February 8, 1908; ed. at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and R. N. College, Cuttack; Unmarried; Agriculturist; previously associated with All-India States Peoples' Association (Praja-mandal), Congress, Jana-Congress, 1966—75, Congress (O), 1975—77; participated m 'Quit India Movement', 1942 and was arrested, fled away from Talcher Jail in Orissa and formed parallel government; went to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to join Suicide-Squad by swimming across the Barrak River at Silcher in Assam; a prize or rupees ten thousand was declared to catch either dead or alive but remained underground for 5 years till Independence; Executive Councillor for the administration of Orissa princely states; Member, Orissa Legislative Assembly, 1950—70; Minister, Orissa Cabinet four times; Deputy Chief Minister, Orissa, 1967—70.
