SINGH, SHRI SHRIKRISHNA, Janata, (Bihar—Monghyr—1977): s. of late Shri Chandra Narayan Singh; b. at Bhramarpur Village, Monghyr District, January 1921; ed. at High School, Jamuyee, Monghyr District; Matriculate; m. Smt. Tara Devi, June, 1936; 1 s.; Agriculturist; previously associated with the Congress Socialist Party, Socialist Party, Praja Socialist Party and Samyukta Socialist Party; Took part in 1942 Quit India movement; remained absconding for 10 months; the then Government declared a reward of Rs. 5,000/- for his arrest; arrested on May 1, 1943, was in prison for 3 years; after release took active part in trade union movement at Dalmianagar, Jamatpur, Jhajha and at various places in Bihar; also associated with peasants' organizations and sharecroppers' movement; arrested and imprisoned 15 times-passing about 3 years in jail; President, Hind Mazdoor Panchayat, Bihar; Secretary, Bihar State Samyukta Socialist Party; Member, Bihar Legislative Assembly, 1962—67, 1967—69 and 1969—72; was Minister of Transport, Animal Husbandry, Public Health and Engineering, Government of Bihar, 1967; Minister of Power, Government of Bihar, 1971.
