Indira Gandhi in 1965 for doing outstanding work for the welfare of weaker sections and women; did commendable work during attack by China and Pakistan in 1962 and 1965 respectively in collecting contributions for Defence Fund, arranging tea-stalls for Jawans at Delhi Cantt., Delhi-Railway Station etc.; actively worked for arranging funds and goods and their distribution to the victims of calamities like floods and droughts; presently engaged in welfare activities particularly for the destitute, widows and the poor. Favourite pastime and recreation:  Reading of books and magazines and viewing television. Special interests:  Social work, particularly for women and children and poor people.
