Champa Limaye; 1 s.; previously associated with the Indian National Congress, 1938—48 and the Socialist Party, studies interrupted due to participation in the freedom movement; imprisoned for 4 years; 1940-45; sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in the Goa Liberation Movement in 1955; spent over 19 months in Portuguese captivity; Played an active part in the JP movement and in the effort to create a united opposition party; was detained under MIS A from July 1975 to February 1977 in various Madhya Pradesh Jails; Member, Congress Socialist Party, 1938—1948; Secretary, Socialist Party, 1952—55; Chairman, Socialist Party; 1958-59; General Secretary, Janata Party since May 1977; Secretary, Asian Socialist Bureau, Rangoon, 1953; Member, (i) Third Lok Sabha, 1964—67; (ii) Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967—70 and (iii) Fifth Lok Sabha, 1973—77; Leader, Socialist Group in Fourth Lok Sabha, 1967; Attended International Socialist Conferences and Councils as Indian socialist delegate in 1947 and 1953.
