DAS, PRQF. MAHANTH SHYAM SUNDAR, M.A., Janata, (Bihar—Sitamarhi-1977):  s. of late Shri Sarayoo Mishra; b. at Janipur Village, Sitamarhi District, September 29, 1932; ed. at L.M.H.E. School, Pupri, Langat Singh College, Muzaffarpur and Bihar University; m. Dr. Prabha Benipuri, 1958; 1 s.; Teacher, Farmer, Political Worker and Religious Missionary; was Lecturer and now Reader, Department of Economics, Bihar University; imprisoned twice under Maintenance of internal Security Act; during emergency, was arrested under Defence of India Rules and was suspended from service; previously associated with the Congress Socialist Party 1946; Chairman Bihar Samajwadi Yuvak Sabha from 1858 till the merger of the P.S.P. with S.P. in 1965; Convener, Bihar Rajya Shikshak Sangharsh Samiti from 1975; Member, Bihar  Legislative Assembly, 1969—72. Social activities:  Founder of one high school, one higher secondary school; co-founder of three degree colleges in the Muzaffarpur District and associated with their managing/governing  committees. Favourite pastime and recreation:  Reading historical and social novels and books on economics, politics and sociology.

Special interests:  Primarily interested in reading and teaching.

Publications:  A textbook on Economics (in Hindi); supervised a Ph.D. work on "Economic Ideas of Dr. R. M. Lohia", a few articles on Gandhiji and foreign affairs.
