ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVENATION
(PROF. SANWAR LAL JAT)

(a) State-wise target set and achieved for irrigating land in the country for XI Plan and target set for XII Plan are attached at Annexure-I.

(b) to (e) Government is aware that some areas of agricultural land in the country still lack irrigation facilities. The details of the State-wise Net sown, Irrigated and Rainfed area is attached at Annexure-II.
State Governments plan, accord sanction and implement irrigation projects as per their priority, needs and resources. The Central Government supplements their efforts through the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) for completion of irrigation projects which are in an advanced stage of execution thereby increasing the Irrigation Potential. In addition, there are other Schemes like Command Area Development and Water Management Programme in 1974-75 to reduce the gap between Irrigation Potential Created and Utilised. Recently the Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) to expand cultivable area under assured irrigation (Har Khet Ko Pani) with convergence of schemes of Ministry of Agriculture and Department of Land Resources.
