Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVENATION

(DR. SANJEEV KUMAR BALYAN)

(a) & (b) Mahanadi – Godavari link is a mother link of 9 link system viz., Mahanadi – Godavari – Krishna – Pennar – Palar – Cauvery – Vaigai – Gundar linkage. The State Government of Odisha was not agreeable to the water balance study of Mahanadi basin carried out by National Water Development Agency. Therefore, the revised water balance study of Mahanadi basin has been entrusted to National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee. Government of Chhattisgarh through a letter in July, 2016 has communicated water requirements of State of Chhattisgarh for irrigation, domestic and industrial needs which works out as 25699 MCM. The same has been considered in the NIH study.
