(b) the annual turnover and the profit/ loss volume of these Units and their effect on the economy of the State; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to bring in development in the States by setting up/ encouraging establishment of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES (SHRI G.M. SIDDESHWARA)

(a) & (b): Since Industry is a state subject, hence no centralized data is maintained in the Department of Heavy Industry for Units of heavy industries in various states of the country. The role of DHI is confined to administration of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under its administrative control. None of these CPSEs has its registered/head office in the State of Punjab.

(c): This Department does not have any scheme to increase setting up/encouraging establishment of Heavy Industries. Many States have evolved incentives and schemes for the development and growth of industries including heavy industries. Central Government, through Ministry of Finance, also provides incentives in the direct and indirect tax structure for the growth of industries across the country.
