(a) whether the Government is considering to impose cess on bottled water and beverage
industries which use water as basic raw material;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether imposing cess will bring the cost of ground water extraction in par with
the cost of recycling waste; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) The Ministry of Water Resources has set up a Sub-Committee to formulate a
policy for water for industries and the framework for regulation as well as incentive for
economic use for large users of ground water which inter-alia includes bottled water and
beverage industries. The Sub-Committee has submitted its report to the Ministry.
