Question : WATER DISPUTE TRIBUNAL



(a) whether the Government is contemplating to set up a single tribunal in place of all the water Dispute Tribunals;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the number of existing water Dispute Tribunals; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to set up a single forum for all interstate water disputes in the country and to give the said body a quasi-judicial status?

(a) & (c)The proposal to set up a standing tribunal to adjudicate interstate river water disputes is at conceptual stage.

(b) At present there are 5 no. of inter-State river water disputes referred under Inter State River Water Disputes (ISRWD) Act, 1956 to the tribunals.. Their details are as follows:
