Question : Nyaya Mitras

(a) the aims and objectives of Nyaya Mitras proposed by the Government;

(b) the details of Nyaya Mitras proposed to be engaged in district courts of Maharashtra;

(c) whether about 100 Nyaya Mitras have been engaged in various District Courts of the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise including Maharashtra?

(a) Nyaya Mitra aims to facilitate expeditious disposal of 15 years old pending cases in High Courts and Subordinate Courts.
(b) In Maharashtra, during the year 2019-20, 3 Nyaya Mitras were engaged one each at Mumbai City Civil Court,Aurangabad District Court and Nagpur District Court. Further, during the year 2021-22, one Nyaya Mitra is engaged at Nagpur District Court from April, 2022.
(c) & (d) Since introduction of Nyaya Mitra programme in 2017, a total of 38NyayaMitrawere engaged in various district courts across the country. However no Nyaya Mitra could be engaged during the year 2020-2021 due to closure of courts and social distancing protocols caused by Covid pandemic. For the year 2021-2022, 11 Nyaya Mitras have been engaged in the 11 District Courts in the month of April 2022.State/UT-wise details of engaged Nyaya Mitra is at Annexure-A.
