Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES (DR. VALLABHBHAI KATHIRIA)

(a) to (d): The Govt have introduced Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for the employees of PSEs in order to rightsize the manpower in Public Sector Units for achieving better performance. The VRS, which was initially introduced in October, 1988 was last modified on 6.11.2001 to allow higher VR compensation in cases of those enterprises in which pay scales were not revised in 1992 and 1997.

There is no proposal at present to give further incentives on the liberalised VRS.

(e): The scheme is voluntary in nature and no such case has come to the notice of the Government.

(f): Question does not arise.
