Question : Matrimonial Disputes

(a) whether the Government has taken note of increasing matrimonial disputes in the country ;
(b) if so, the effective measures being taken by the Government in this regard;
(c) whether the Government has chalked out any scheme for the rehabilitation and security of single women after these disputes; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Department of Justice has informed that data regarding the increase of matrimonial disputes is not maintained centrally. However, there are 6,62,442 cases pending in Family Courts which includes matrimonial disputes. In the Chief Justices Conference, 2015, directions have been issued to all High Courts to regularly monitor and take necessary steps for early disposal of such cases.

(c) & (d) : Post divorce maintenance are governed by respective personal laws in respective religion. The Government has enacted Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 to protect women from domestic violence. The Act provides emergency relief to women in the form of protection orders, residence orders, monetary relief and compensation orders. Apart from the above, the Ministry of Women and Child Development is administering various schemes/programmes such as Swadhar Home, Working Women Hostels, Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP), Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK), National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW) for the welfare and empowerment of women which can also be availed by single women, on meeting the specific requirements prescribed there under.
