SINGH, SHRI SACHINDRALAL, Janata, (Tripura—Tripura West—1977): s. of late Shri Dinadayal Singh; b. at Agartala, July, 1907; ed. at Umakant Academy, Victoria College, Comilla, Bangladesh; look part in India's freedom struggle; moved against the autocratic monarchy rule in Tripura, an un-compromising fighter, connected with Chittagong Armoury Raiders, detained in Comilla Jail, Hijli Detention Camp and interned in the Paba Village, Rajshahi District, Bangladesh; after release joined the Congress; fought British Imperialism and organised the movement against the then H. H. Maharaja Manikya of Tripura at the outset of the 'Reang Revolution' by the 'Reang Community'; externed from Tripura by Maharaja, from the Tipperah District, Assam, Dacca and from British India and detained in Agartala Central Jail, Mymensingh Jail, Suri Jail and Alipore Central Jail, spent about 14 years in Jails; was intimately associated with Sheikh Mujibur Rehman in the Agartala Conspiracy case; helped in the creation of Bangladesh by giving shelter to prominent leaders of erstwhile Pakistan, and evacuees in general; arranged for Mukti Fauz transit camps Guerilla Warfare Training Camps and Convalescent Camp for war personnel wounded by the Pak army; President, Tripura State Congress Committee for over a decade; Member, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and All-India Congress Committee; Advisor to the Government of Tripura; Chairman, (i) Tripura Territorial Council, (ii) Tripura Khadi and Village Industries Board, (iii) Tripura Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, (iv) Tripura Gandhi Centinary Committee, and (v) Gandhi Gram Bikash Samiti, President Bharat Sewak Samaj; First Chief Minister of Tripura; presently Member, Committee on Subordinate Legislation. Social activities: Organised Tripura Rajya Gana Parishad, a branch, of All-India States Peoples Conference; worked among the peasants, Harijans and Tribals and moved against the Maharaja for illegal ejection of Ramnagar peasants; moved for the development of Railways in Tripura; worked for famine relief in tribal areas of Tripura; worked for the all-round development of present day Tripura. Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading, playing with children and attending their functions. Special interests: Social service.
