SHINKRE, SHRI JANARDAN JAGANNATH, Ind., (Goa, Daman and Diu-Panjim-1967): s. of Shri Jagannath Vishnu Shinkre; b. at Siolim, Goa; June 16, 1916; ed at Almeida College and Escola Normal De Luis De Camoes-Goa; m. Shrimati Nirmala Janardan Shinkre; 2 S. and 1 D; Journalist; editor and proprietor of the Marathi daily "Pradeep"; previously associated with the National Congress (Goa), the Goa National Conference and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Dal; Principal of Portuguese schools from 1939—47; associated with the freedom movement of Goa from 1946 to 1957 as an underground worker and, thereafter, openly up to 1961; sentenced (in absentia) by a Military Tribunal of Portuguese India to imprisonment and loss of civil rights for 15 years. Social activities: Associated with the Gomantak Shikshan Sammelan and the Gomantak Sahitya Sammelan; edited "Yugantar" (Marathi Magazine) and "Deepgriha" (Marathi Weekly). Hobby: Reading.
