[Janata—Karnataka, Mandya, 1984]  s. of Shri Veerappa; b. at Keelara Village, Mandya Taluk and District, July 15, 1915; ed. at Central College, Bangalore and Raja Lakhama Gowda College, Belgaum; m. Smt. Shusheelamma, February, 1944; 3 s. and 3 d.; Political and Social Worker and Agriculturist; previously associated with Congress Upto 1969 and Congress (O) till 1977; Minister of Education, Government of Karnataka, 1967-71; Member, (i) Constituent Assembly of erstwhile Mysore State upto 1947, (ii) Mysore Legislative Assembly 1947-54, (iii) Karnataka Legislative Council, l966-72.

Social activities:  Founder of educational institutions, cooperative societies, fighting for upliftment of farmers, specially cane growers and paddy cultivators; Founder, Lok Sevak Sangha for propagation of political, social and spiritual philosophies of the great Mahatma; set up a Social Service Society for undertaking production of Khadi, polyester Khadi with the help of Karnataka Khadi and Village Industries Board. Favourite pastime and recreation:  Sports, drama, music, literature, journalism and love of nature. Books published:  Four dramas; translated into Kannada late Shri Pyarelal's—"Last Phase—Mahatma Gandhi" in two volumes. Sports: Tennis and swimming.
