RAI, SHRIMATI SAHODRABAI  [Congress (I)—Madhya Pradesh, Sagar (Res. Sch. Castes), 1980]  d. of Shri Niren Singh; b. at Gotherai Village, Patharia P.S., Damoh District, 1919: Widow; Agriculturist; imprisoned in connection with 1942 movement; participated in Goa liberation movement in August 1955 and was wounded; worked for Hindu-Muslim unity in Noakhali, 1945; participated in Satyagraha against the arrest of Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1979 and imprisoned for a day; Member, (i) Local Board, 1947, (ii) Janpad Sabha, 1948, (iii) Harijan Welfare Board; and (iv) Jabalpur Division Selection Committee for Teachers and Lecturers; Member, (i) Second Lok Sabha, 1957-62, (ii) Third Lok Sabha, 1962-67 and (iii) Fifth Lok Sabha, 1971-77; presently Member, Committee on Absence of Members from the Sittings of the House.  

Social activities:  Rendered assistance to Sindhis for settlement after partition of the country; interested in Harijan welfare, adult education, promotion of Khadi, women organisations and helping the poor, particularly the poor cultivators.   Favourite pastime and recreation:  Rifle shooting and walking barefoot.   Special interests:  Nursing, helping poor girls in marriage matters, Harijan's education, and cultivation.   Sports and clubs:  Swimming and running.   Permanent address:  Karrapu Village and P.O., Sagar District, Madhya Pradesh.
