Sumitra Krishna Iyer, 1961; Businessman; previously associated with Congress Party upto 1969 and was in Congress (O) during 1969-77; joined, freedom movement while yet a student and courted imprisonment several times; Minister, Urban Development, Karnataka, 1984; Councillor, Bangalore City Corporation for a decade and Mayor, Bangalore City Corporation during 1962; former President, Mysore State Co-operative Housing Corporation; former General Secretary, Mysore Dasara Exhibition; Member, Karnataka Legislative Council, 1970-76, 1976-82 and 1982-84; Deputy Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, 1980-82.

Social activities:  Closely associated with number of educational, cultural and social organisations in Bangalore; also served in the co-operative field and was instrumental in getting the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme sanctioned for Bangalore City.
