Question : CASES PENDING IN DRTS



(a) whether a large number of cases are pending in Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) in the country.

(b) If so, the details of the number of cases pending and the amount locked thereon in each of the DRT in the country.

(c) whether many cases are reported to be pending for a long time;

(d) if so, the details of the cases pending for more than one year, two years, three years, four years and more than four years in each DRT; and

(e) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government for expeditious clearance of such cases as stipulated in the DRT Act?

(a) to(d): A statement, indicating the number of cases pending in the Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) and the amount locked therein along with the details of number of cases pending for more than one year in each DRT, as on 31.01.2012, is annexed.

(e) Some of the important steps taken by the Government to remove the bottlenecks in speedy disposal of cases in DRTs are as under:

(i) Meetings with Registrars of DRTs/DRATs are held on regular basis to sort out administrative issues and assess the reasons for pendency and dispose of cases on priority.

(ii) Meetings with Recovery Officers are held on regular basis for speedy disposal of recovery cases.

(iii) A Committee headed by Chairperson of a DRAT, has been constituted for review of legal, structural; administrative, monitoring and supervisory systems of DRTs and recommend measures to make these Tribunals more effective and efficient.
