Question : Broadcasting of Channels of Private Sector

(a) whether any law has been enacted for the broadcast of channels of private sector under which broadcasting rights are provided to them;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the number of TV channels permitted at national and State level at present, State/UT-wise;
(d) the fees taken by the private TV channels for advertisement broadcasted by them along with the manner in which the collected funds are utilized by them; and
(e) whether the said funds are being properly utilized at the State level and if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND BROADCASTING {COL RAJYAVARDHAN RATHORE (Retd.)}
(a) to (c) Ministry grants permission to uplink and /or downlink Private Satellite TV channels all over India irrespective of States/UTs in accordance with the Policy Guideline for Uplinking and Downlinking of TV channels, 2011 to companies registered in India under the Companies Act 1956 only. As on 31.10.2017, there are 877 Private Satellite TV channels, the details of which are available in the website of the Ministry i.e. www.mib.nic.in.

(d) & (e) No such records are maintained by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
