Question : PHYSICAL VERIFICATION OF OBJECTS IN NATIONAL MUSEUM



(a) whether the physical verification of the objects in National Museum, New Delhi and National Gallery of Modern Arts, New Delhi has not been conducted since 2003;

(b) if so, the details and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government proposes to come out with a complete list of objects in these institutions of national importance; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Physical verification of the objects is an ongoing process and is being carried out on regular basis in National Museum, New Delhi and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.

(b) Does not arise in view of above.

(c) Both the organizations have a complete record of each object in the Accession Register.

(d) The total number of art objects in the National Museum and National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi is 2,06,169 and 16,480 respectively.
