Question : Coastal Economic Zones

(a) whether it is a fact that the Government has identified 14 Coastal Economic Zones (CEZs) to be targeted for labour intensive and export oriented industries; and

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken by the Government to develop these zones?

Answer given by the minister

(a & b) Yes, Sir. In the National Perspective Plan(NPP) of Sagarmala Programme, 14 Coastal Economic Zones (CEZs) have been identified, details of which are placed at Annexure-I. CEZs proposed in the NPP of Sagarmala programme (2016-2035) are expected to reduce logistic cost and to generate new jobs. Proposal for developing one prototype CEZ has been taken up by the Government.
