Question : UNCLAIMED WASTE OIL CONTAINERS IN PORT



(a) whether waste oil containers in large numbers are lying unclaimed in various ports of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether there are any guidelines to check such situation in ports;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(f) the corrective steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Does not arise.

(c)&(d): The Hazardous Waste (Management, handling and transboundary movement) Rules, 2008 under the Environment Protection Act, 1986 for handling import/export/treatment/ storage/disposal/transport and movement of hazardous waste, including waste oil have been notified by the Ministry of Environment & Forests. The Hon’ble Supreme Court had also issued orders on the subject and a Monitoring Committee was also constituted by them to oversee the compliance of the order.
