Question : Buildings for Anganwadi Centres

(a) Whether the Government has taken note that a number of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in the country, particularly in Jharkhand do not have their own buildings and are running from rented premises and if so, the de tails thereof, State/UT-wise;
(b) the expenditure incurred on paying rent for such premises along with its percentage in the total expenditure incurred on AWCs in the country, particularly in Jharkhand during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise;
(c) the present provisions regarding hiring building/rooms for AWCs;
(d) whether the Government has received any complaints with regard to violations of aforesaid provisions during the said period;
(e) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise and the action taken thereon; and
(f) the further measures taken by the Government for construction of permanent buildings for AWCs?

(a) : Out of 13,63,021 number of operational Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in the country, 20,433 AWCs in Government Buildings and 15,107 AWCs in Rented Buildings are running in the Jharkhand State and State/ UT-wise position is at Annexure-I.

(b) : Statement of expenditure incurred on payment of rent for premises along with its percentage in the total expenditure incurred on AWCs in the country, particularly in Jharkhand during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise is at Annexure-II.

(c) : To ensure continued implementation of the Anganwadi Services under Umbrella ICDS scheme, Government has made provisions for taking the AWC buildings on rent for which the monthly rentals are Rs.1,000/- in the rural areas, Rs.4,000/- in the urban areas and Rs.6,000/- in the metropolitan cities.

(d) : No, Madam.

(f) : Under revised Anganwadi Services, there is a provision of construction of 1 lakh new AWC buildings per year under convergence with MGNREGS @ Rs.7.00 lakh per AWC building. Central share for construction of AWC building is Rs.1.00 lakh per AWC for all States/ UTs which is reimbursed to States/ UTs on completion of construction work.
