Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Ministry has initiated a Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) with the support of the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF);
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the main Project Development Objective (PDO) of the programme and the total cost of the same;
(d) the details of cities that have been selected under the above programme, State-wise; and
(e) the steps taken/ being taken to improve urban transport under the projects?

(a): Yes, Madam.
(b) & (c): The Project Development Objective (PDO) of the World Bank – Global Environment Facility (GEF) – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) assisted Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) is to strengthen capacity of Government of India, participating States and cities in planning, financing, implementing, operating and managing sustainable urban transport systems and also to assist States and cities in preparing and implementing certain demonstration “Green Transport” projects towards reduction of Green House Gases (GHG) in the urban environment. It has following 03 components:

i) National Capacity Development initiatives

ii) Implementation of Demonstration Projects in select cities.
iii) Project Management.

Total cost of the SUTP is Rs. 1,898.13 Crore (approx.).

(d): State-wise selected cities are as under:

(e): SUTP is contributing in the capacity building at institutional and individual levels both in the Government of India and participating States and cities enabling them in planning, financing, implementing, operating and managing Sustainable Urban Transport Systems. The demonstration cities under SUTP are implementing various initiatives in Public Transport, Non-motorized Transport (NMT), Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and Public Bike Sharing (PBS), which will improve the urban transport in the cities.
