Question : Private Technical Institutions

(a) the number of operational private technical institutions in the country, State-wise and Discipline-wise;
(b) whether the Government is aware that many institutions do not have basic infrastructure for imparting practical training;
(c) if so, the details of the mechanism the Government has in place through All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to properly monitor the quality of private institutions;
(d) whether the Government has any plans to maintain a record of the employment gained by the pass outs from private institutions, if not, the reasons therefor; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): The details of State-wise and Discipline-wise private technical institutions operational in the country during 2015-16 are at Annexure.
(b)&(c) : The AICTE grants approval for opening of new technical institutions or extension in approval to existing technical institutions subject to fulfillment of norms and standards as prescribed in the Approval Process Handbook of AICTE. The Institutions not fulfilling the norms and standards are liable for action as laid down in the Approval Process Handbook.
(d)&(e): It has been made mandatory for every AICTE approved institution to establish and maintain a placement cell; and this data is maintained only at the institution level.
