Question : Details of Schools

(a) the details of the number of Government schools across the country, State/UT-wise
including West Bengal and Gujarat;
(b) whether the Government is planning/proposing to start pre-school classes in Government
schools across the country including West Bengal;
(c) if so, the details thereof, State/UT wise and the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether the Government has started pre-school classes in some of the States as a trial, if so,
the details thereof along with its results?

(a) The State/UT wise details of Government schools across the country as per UDISE
2015-16 is at Annexure-I.
(b) to (d) Yes Madam, the Department of School Education and Literacy has launched
Samagra Shiksha - an Integrated Scheme for School Education which envisages the ‘school’
as a continuum from pre-school, primary, upper primary, secondary to senior secondary
levels. Under the scheme, there is a provision for grant upto Rs 1 lakh per school as
non-recurring grant and upto Rs. 2 lakh per school as recurring grant including manpower
deployment for support at pre-school level to States/UTs including West Bengal.
Under the scheme of Samagra Shiksha, during 2018-19, strengthening and support to
existing pre-schools and Anganwadi Centres co-located in primary schools, have been approved
on the basis of proposals received from the States and UTs. The State wise details of strengthening
and support to existing pre-schools/anganwadi centres approved under the Samagra Shiksha
during 2018-19 is at Annexure-II.
