Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SHIPPING (SHRI KRISHANPAL GURJAR)

(a)&(b): Yes, Madam. The Government has implemented issuance General Trading Licenses (GTL) to Indian Flag Ships co-terminus with the Certificate of Registry(or the Provisional Certificate of Registry, as the case may be) by the Registrars of Indian ships.

Taking into consideration the request of the shipping industry, the Government has decided that trading license to Indian flag ships shall be issued by all Registrar of Ships and make the validity period of the license co-terminus with the certificate of Registry or Provisional Certificate of Registry, as the case may be.

Accordingly, the shipowner will make an application together with the required fees to the concerned Registrar of Ships for the issuance of GTL at the time of registration of his vessel or at the time of renewal of licence or any time during the validity of the current licence and the Registrar shall issue a license with validity co-terminus with the Certificate of Registry.
