Question : Digital Sky Platform

(a) whether the Government has launched the Digital Sky Platform, if so, the details and the present status thereof;

(b) whether a number of flights have been approved and rejected through the Digital Sky Platform and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether a variety of drones have been licensed to fly in the country under the new rules set by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether DGCA has received a number of requests for beyond line of site drone flying and if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 356 REGARDING DIGITAL SKY PLATFORM TO BE ANSWERED ON 12.12.2019. (a) The work for development, hosting and maintenance of Digital Sky Platform has been awarded by Airports Authority of India (AAI) in August 2019. Hosting of Beta version of the Platform has been completed with requisite security certification. The Digital Sky Platform is live for registration of manufacturers, operators, pilots and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), commonly known as Drones. Operators can apply for Unique Identification Number (UIN) and Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permit (UAOP) online for approval by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). (b) & (c) The UIN has been issued to the drones of two companies namely, M/s Quidich and M/s Indrones, both based in Maharashtra. Further, a total number of six models of RPAS/Drones have been provisionally accepted by DGCA to fly in the country. The list of the six models is attached as Annexure-I. (d) DGCA had floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) for conducting experimental Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). 32 proposals were received by DGCA for BVLOS operations. Two models of RPAS have so far been approved for experimental BVLOS operations.
