Question : AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITIES



(a) the number of agriculture universities functioning in the country, State-wise;

(b) the number of students being awarded graduation degree from these universities every year, State-wise;

(c) whether Government proposes to open more agriculture universities in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

(a) & (b): There are fifty two agricultural universities including 46 State Agricultural Universities, one Central Agricultural University, and five Institutes having deemed-to-be-university status. Besides, four central universities with faculty of Agriculture are functioning in the country. A list of State-wise number of universities and the number of students graduating is enclosed.

(c) & (d): Education being a State subject, State Agricultural Universities are normally opened by the respective State Governments. Proposals/requests for Central Agricultural Universities are considered on merit when they are mooted or received.
