Question : ASSISTANCE TO KARNATAKA FOR DROUGHT RELIEF WORK



(a) whether the Government have deputed a team to study the acute drought conditions in Karnataka during March-April 2002;

(b) if so, whether the team has submitted its report;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government of Karnataka has sought special grants;

(e) if so, the amount sought for by the State; and

(f) the amount so far released by the Union Government to tackle the drought?

(a): No, Sir. No Team was deputed to study the drought conditions in Karnataka during March-April 2002.

(b) & (c): Does not arise.

(d) & (e): No Memorandum has been received from the State Government for Central assistance in the wake of drought.

(f): 1st instalment of Central share of Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) for 2002-03 amounting to Rs.30.83 crore has been released to the State for undertaking immediate relief measures in the wake of natural calamities including drought.
