Question : EDUCATION LOANS



(a) whether most of the students joined for Diploma and Degree courses in Nursing, in colleges in Tamil Nadu and other States particularly in Bangalore are being denied Education Loans by the nationalised banks;

(b) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the remedial measures taken by the Government in this regard?

(a), (b) & (c) : Indian Banks` Association(IBA) has circulated the Model Education Loan Scheme, 2004 to all Scheduled Commercial Banks for implementation. The Scheme provides broad guidelines indicating, inter-alia, courses eligible for education loan. The specific complaints, if any, regarding non-sanctioning of education loan by banks for eligible courses to eligible and deserving candidates/students are investigated and remedial measures are taken. Information available from 15 Public Sector Banks indicates that banks are extending education loans to all eligible students applying for recognized courses including Nursing.
