STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 266 ANSWERED ON 04.08.2016 ASKED BY SHRI RAYAPATI SAMBASIVA RAO AND SHRI M.I. SHANAVAS REGARDING WORLD CLASS HIGHWAYS
(a) There are two National Expressways (NE) at present. NE-1 (Ahmedabad- Vadodara Expressway), having 93.4 km length, was developed as 4 lane Expressway in 2004 and is under operation; works for construction of NE-2 (Eastern Peripheral Expressway in the States of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, connecting NH-1 and NH-2), of about 135 length, have been awarded in August, 2015 and is targeted for completion in March, 2018. The details of ongoing / planned projects for development of Expressways, sanctioned cost of ongoing projects, along with their current status is at Annexure-I.
(b) to (e) The development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) is a continuous process. The works on NHs are accordingly taken up from time to time as per inter-se priority, traffic density and availability of funds to keep the NHs in traffic worthy conditions. In stretches under implementation, the maintenance is carried out by the Contractor/Concessionaire as part of their obligations in the Contract.
The State/Union Territory (UT)-wise details of proposals received and sanctioned during the last three years and current year for Periodical Renewal (PR)/ Improvement of Riding Quality (IRQP) are at Annexure-II.
The year-wise and State/UT-wise details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred for maintenance and repair of NHs during each of the last three years and the current year are at Annexure-III.
