(a) whether “Khelo India Programme” was launched in 2018 by the Government in a bid to nurture talent at the grassroot level;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether in June 2020, the Government has planned to open as many as 1,000 new Khelo India Centres over a period of four years with at least one
centre in each district of the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) and (b) Yes Sir. The ‘Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports’ Scheme was launched in October, 2017 with the twin objectives of mass participation and promotion of excellence in sports across the country. Under the “Talent Search and Development” vertical of the Khelo India Scheme, 2275 Khelo India Athletes have been identified for talent development till date.
(c) and (d) Yes, Sir. Under the “State Level Khelo India Centres” vertical of the Khelo India Scheme, this Ministry has decided to establish 1000 Khelo India Centres (KICs) across the country at the district-level. 478 KICs have already been approved in 29 States/UTs so far.
