STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION No. 146 FOR 27th JULY, 2018 BY DR. KIRIT SOMAIYA AND SHRIMATI KAVITHA KALVAKUNTLA REGARDING “AIIB LOANS”
(a) to (c): Yes Madam. India hasposed 13 projects costing US$ 3.276 billion for project financing from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Out of these, 7 Projects have already been approved by AIIB for financing of US$1.314 billion.Legal agreements for 4 projects have been signed and disbursement has started in 3 projects.The rate of interest for the 4signed projects is based on LIBOR+ a fixed spread of 0.75% to 1.30% depending upon tenor of the loan. The remaining 6 projects posed to AIIB, amounting to US$ 1.962 Billion are yet to be approved. The details of the Projects are attached as Annexure-I.
(d) The Government has approved India’s capital contribution of US$8.37 Billion towards the capital stock of AIIB with 20% as ‘paid up’ capital to be paid in five equal instalments.So far, a total amount of US$ 1.0041 Billion has been paid in the form of 3 instalments each of US$334.7 million.
(e) In the last three years,28 projects have been approved by AIIB for 14 Countries/ regions for financing of approximately US$ 5billion. Details are attached as Annexure- II.
