Question : Aligarh Muslim University

(a) whether the system for providing reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
is in place as per rules in the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU);
(b) if not, the reasons therefor and the time by which the same is likely to be made
applicable by the Government; and
(c) whether the Government is contemplating to remove the word ‘Muslim’ from Aligarh
Muslim University on account of its being a central institution and if so, the time by which it
is likely to be removed?

(a) & (b): Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is not following the reservation policy of the
Government considering itself to be a “minority institution”. The minority status of AMU is
sub-judice before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
