Question : EXPORT AND IMPORT DUTY ON RAW GOLD



(a) the rates of export and import duties on the raw gold and manufactured gold products respectively;

(b) whether Indian gold production/ornaments manufacturing companies are facing adverse impact due to existing rates; and

(c) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a): Sir, there is no export duty on the raw gold and manufactured gold products. Currently Gold bars, other than tola bars, bearing Manufacturers or refiner’s engraved serial number and weight expressed in metric units, and gold coins attract an import duty of Rs 300 per 10 grams. Gold in any other form attracts an import duty of Rs. 750 per 10 grams. Gold jewellery attracts an import duty of 10% advalorem.

(b): Representations were received requesting reduction of import duty on standard gold.

(c): There is no proposal to alter the existing duty structure on the gold and gold jewellery.
