(a) to (d) Ghat cleaning works are primary responsibility of State Governments and Urban Local Bodies / Gram Panchayats.

However, a project for cleaning of 84 ghats at Varanasi was sanctioned at a cost of Rs.15 crore for 3 years by National Mission for Clean Ganga of Ministry of Jal Shakti . Subsequently, ghat cleaning projects have been taken up at Haridwar (72 ghats), Bithoor (19 ghats), Kanpur (20 ghats), Allahabad (21 ghats) and Mathura- Vrindavan (27 ghats). No application from the State Governments for Ghat cleaning is pending with National Mission for Clean Ganga under Namami Gange programme.
