Question : NRDWP

(a) whether the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) is meeting its desired objectives in Bihar;
(b) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) the efforts made by the Union Government to provide drinking water in all the rural areas of Bihar by the year 2024?

(a) to (c) Since August, 2019 to enable every rural household in the country, including those in the State of Bihar, to have potable water supply through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024, Government of India is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal in partnership with States after subsuming National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP).
Under JJM, in 2019-20, out of Central allocation of ? 787.31 Crore, the State had drawn ? 417.35 Crore. In 2020-21, out of ? 1,839.16 Crore allocated to the State, the State has been able to draw ? 350.42 Crore, so far.
As reported by the State in JJM – Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), as on 01.02.2021, out of 1.97 Crore rural households in the State, 1.25 Crore (63.09%) rural households have tap water connection.
