Question : Conversion of Road into NHs in Tamil Nadu

(a) whether the Union Government has received any requests from the Government of Tamil Nadu to convert eight roads as National Highways and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the measures taken by the Union Government to increase the road infrastructure in the State;
(c) the details of the roads in each district of Tamil Nadu that are being covered for financial assistance under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) at present; and
(d) the details of the funds released during the last three years for the said roads along with the pending funds due to be released to the State?

(a)&(b) Yes Sir. This Ministry has received request for conversion of 8 State Highways (SHs) having length of 500 Km into National Highways (NHs) in the State of Tamil Nadu. The Ministry considers declaration of State Roads into new National Highways and development of road infrastructure from time to time based on the requirement of connectivity, inter-se priority and availability of funds.
(c) The details of the roads in each district of Tamil Nadu that are being covered for financial assistance under Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) is annexed as annexure-I.
(d) The funds under CRIF are released by this Ministry State/UT wise and not project wise. The details of the funds released during last three years and current year is as follows.
