Question : Stealing of Street Lamps installed on the Expressways

(a) whether the protective railings and the street lamps installed on both sides of some of the expressways are being stolen thereby enhancing the risk for the commutors;

(b) if so, the precaution the Government proposes to ensure that such theft does not recur and the road users are safe;

(c) whether the Government would consider installing surveillance cameras to catch such culprits who cause hindrance to the development and progress of the States; and

(d) if so, the time by which a final decision in this regard is likely to be taken?

(a) There have been instances of stealing of some part of the fencing and street lamps installed on both side of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE).

(b) to (d) The work of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for entire Eastern Peripheral Expressway has been awarded. Installation of surveillance cameras are a part of ITS contract at Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
