Question : HYDRO POWER GENERATION



(a) whether the Union Government proposes to construct dams for hydro power generation on big rivers in collaboration and with the assistance of the State Governments;

(b) if so, the river-wise details thereof;

(c) whether any assessment of the hydro power generation capacity has been made in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRI BHARATSINH SOLANKI )

(a) to (d) : The following hydro projects are under consideration for implementation by the Government as Joint Venture schemes with participation of the State Government/State Government Utilities:-

(i) A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been entered into between the NHPC Limited, a CPSU and the Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) for the development of a total installed capacity of 2120 MW on the river Chenab.

(ii) A joint venture has been proposed between NHPC Limited, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL), both CPSUs and the Government of Manipur for the development of 1500 MW (i.e. Tipaimukh Hydro Electric Project) on the river Barak in the State of Manipur.

(iii) A joint venture has been proposed between NHPC Limited and the Government of Manipur for the development of 66 MW (i.e. Loktak downstream Hydro Electric Project) on the river Leimatak in the State of Manipur.
