Question : POWER GENERATION FROM INDIRA SAGAR PROJECT



(a) the target date set for power generation from Indira Sagar Power Project;

(b) whether any steps have been taken to expedite the work so that the generation of power start as per schedule; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) : The Government had accorded approval to the formation of Narmada Hydro-electric Development Corporation Ltd. (NHDC) and the cost estimate of Indira Sagar Hydro-electric Project (8x125 MW), Madhya Pradesh during March, 2002. The project is scheduled for full commissioning by May, 2005.

(b) & (c) : The project is progressing in accordance with the Commissioning schedule. All possible steps are being taken to expedite the works of Indira Sagar Project. An expenditure of Rs.1761.16 crores has been incurred on the project by the end of January, 2003 as against the sanctioned cost of Rs.4355.57 crores. The dam has been raised upto Elevation (EL) 225 metres against the total height of EL 267 metres. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has recently given permission to raise the dam height upto EL 238.0 metres.
