Question : Rashtriya Gokul Mission

(a) the number of Gokul Grams established under Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), State-wise during the last five years;
(b) the amount spent by the Government on RGM during the said period;
(c) the details of measures taken for breed improvement under RGM during the said period; and
(d) whether the Government is able to achieve its target under RGM of preserving indigenous cattle breeds, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) The number of Gokul Grams established under Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) is given at Annexure I.
(b) Amount of Rs 1841.75 crore has been released to States/UTs/ Research Institutions and NDDB since 2014-15 till 31st January 2021 for implementation of Rashtriya Gokul Mission.
(c) Measures taken for breed improvement under Rashtriya Gokul Mission are as under:
(i) Extension of AI Coverage: Nationwide AI programme; Establishment of MAITRI centres; Strengthening of existing AI centres & Semen Stations and Training of Existing AI Technicians
(ii) Production of HGM Bulls: Pedigree Selection and Progeny Testing
(iii) Breed Improvement by Modern Technology: Sex sorted semen production; Establishment of IVF laboratories and Genomic selection
(iv) Development and conservation of indigenous breeds: Establishment of Gokul Grams and Establishment of National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre.

(d) As a result of implementation of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission population of indigenous and non-descript female cattle have increased by 10% from 89.22 million to 98.17 million between Livestock Census 2012 and 2019. Milk production from non descript and indigenous cattle has been increased by 36.29% from 28.3 million tonnes in 2013-14 to 38.57 million tonnes in 2018-19 (As Per Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2019).
