Question : CNG FILLING STATIONS IN NCT REGION



(a) whether Supreme Court has recently directed the State Governments coming under National Capital Territory Region to make provisions for sufficient CNG filling stations in their States;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the steps taken by the Government in this regard; and

(d) the number of CNG filling stations likely to be set up in the country, particularly in NCT region, State-wise during the current financial year?

(a) & (b) Vide its orders dated the 11th March 2005 the Supreme Court had directed the States of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to render full cooperation and assistance to M/s Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to set up the required number of CNG outlets in Faridabad and Gurgaon in the State of Haryana and in Noida, including Greater Noida, in the State of Uttar Pradesh. The Court also directed that with regard to loss of revenue on account of wavier of sales tax, the matter should be discussed, in the first instance, between the Union of India and the State Governments concerned to secure an amicable solution. The Court further directed IGL the States of Haryana & Uttar Pradesh and the Union of India to file a progress report within a period of five weeks.

(c) & (d) IGL have already initiated preliminary activities for introducing CNG in the NCR cities viz., Noida (including Greater Noida), Gurgaon and Faridabad. Government have allocated natural gas for this purpose for these cities. IGL initially plans to set up 20 CNG stations in the first phase as per the following details:-

As of now, two CNG stations have been commissioned in Noida. CNG will be progressively introduced in other cities of the country with the expansion of the pipeline infrastructure and the increased availability of natural gas.
