(c) if not, the amount outstanding on Orissa Government and the action being taken or proposed to be taken in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) to (c): Presently, Orissa is neither supplying the share of 5 MW power of Madhya Pradesh in Hirakud Hydel Power Project

(installed capacity 270 MW) located in Orissa nor paying compensation for retention of this 5 MW power. The payment of compensation of MP`s share of 5 MW power was being made by Orissa State Electricity Board (OSEB, now GRIDCO), during the period when OSEB was availing power from MPEB. The total outstanding against OSEB as on July 2000 was Rs. 59.60 Crores (Provisional) out of which compensation towards retention of MP`s share of 5 MW power is Rs. 47.27 crores.

This is a bilateral issue for which the two States are holding discussions for resolving the matter.
