(b) if so, the action taken by the Government on the said proposal; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVENATION (PROF.SANWAR LAL JAT)

(a)to(c) No such proposal has been received from Jalaon in Maharashtra for development of Panchnada dam. However, a project proposal titled “Panchnada Dam Project” on river Yamuna was submitted by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1983 to Central Water Commission (CWC) under this Ministry, for techno-economic appraisal.

The catchment area lies in the States of Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Rajasthan, and some areas of Madhya Pradesh were also proposed to be submerged. On account of divergence of views between the three states, appraisal of the project could not be completed. CWC has requested Government of Uttar Pradesh to explore possibility of optimizing submergence so as to minimise submergence in Madhya Pradesh, and also to consider the views of Govt. of Rajasthan, before re-submission of proposal. No subsequent reference has been received by CWC in this regard.

In view of the above, no proposal of Panchnada Project is presently under consideration in this Ministry.
