A new Central Sector Scheme of North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), in place of the existing scheme of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources-State (NLCPR-State), was approved by the Government of India on 15.12.2017. A Budgetary Outlay of Rs.5300 crore was approved for three years i.e. from 2017-18 to 2019-20 for taking up new projects under NESIDS and to meet the liabilities of ongoing projects sanctioned earlier under NLCPR-State scheme. Out of this outlay, Rs.3700 crore was earmarked for the ongoing projects of NLCPR-State and remaining Rs.1600 crore for taking up new projects under NESIDS.
Accordingly, the NESIDS guidelines were issued in February, 2018, which inter alia prescribed the focus areas for projects as follows:-
• Physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power and connectivity enhancing tourism,
• Social infrastructure relating to education and health.
In the Financial Year 2017-18, only two projects of Mizoram worth Rs.142.27 crore and one project of Assam worth Rs.77.00 crore were identified (not sanctioned) as per scheme guidelines in the month of March, 2018. Till date, 46 projects worth Rs.1458.12 crore of various North Eastern States have been selected for funding under NESIDS till date. State-wise details of the selected projects under NESIDS are as under:-
