Question : Drug Use

(a) whether it has come to the notice of the Government that the incidence of use of drugs is rising among women and children;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the number of women and children detained for selling/using drugs;
(d) the number of de-addiction centres functioning across the country, State-wise;
(e) whether the Government is providing financial assistance to these centres; and
(f) if so, the details of funding provided during the last three years, year and State-wise?

(a) to (b) : A study conducted by National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the magnitude of substances use in India presents major findings of the survey in terms of proportion of Indian population using various substances and those affected by substance use disorders. The survey indicates that there are wide variations in the extent and prevalence of substance use across different states and between various substances.

(c) : National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) compiles and publishes information on crimes in its publication “Crime in India”. The published reports are available till the year 2018.

(d) to (f) : State wise list of de-addiction centres and the amount sanctioned/released during the last three years is at Annexure-1A and Annexure- 1B .
