Question : NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL



(a) whether the Government is in search of land to construct National War Memorial in the remembrance of thousands of Indian martyrs / soldiers of various wars since 1947;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any committee has been / proposed to be constituted to search for a piece of land for the purpose;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor and the time by which the search is likely to be completed?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Alternative sites in various parts of Delhi have been considered.

(c) to (e): A Group of Ministers comprising of Minister of Finance, Minister of Defence and Minister of Urban Development was constituted on 6th August, 2009 to identify the location for National War Memorial. The revised composition of GoM w.e.f. 17.07.2012 is Minister of Defence, Minister of Urban Development and Minister of State (Finance). The GoM has had several meetings on the matter. The decision / recommendations of GoM are yet to be received.
